A YouTuber known for documenting his extreme outdoor adventures sent friends and family haunting last messages before being found dead after a severe snowstorm in Sweden.
Storm De Beul, 22, had been hiking solo and had set up camp when the snowstorm hit, sending a friend a video of the wind whipping around his tent and snow in his shoes, as reported Belgian news outlet 7sur7.
“Tonight, it’s going to get worse. Jesus Christ,” De Beul said in the video.
De Beul reportedly contacted emergency services during the storm, saying he was injured and needed help, however authorities were unable to reach him until the next day due to extreme weather conditions.
The YouTuber was found dead on Oct. 30 in Lapland. His family said he was found outside with no shelter, and he had a broken nose. “He must have suffered for a long time and died alone. I keep imagining his last moments. It devastates me,” Elizabeth Rademaker, the man’s mother, told the outlet.
De Beul, known as StormOutdoorsy on YouTube, posted videos of him hiking and camping across northern Europe. He had amassed more than 1,100 subscribers while he only began posting on the channel about three months ago.
Before his passing, the YouTuber texted his grandmother, “It’s snowing heavily here. But don’t worry, I’ll survive, you know.”
Because of the conditions, his family has not been able to retrieve his belongings. However, his family hopes to find his camera that may have captured his last moments.
“His videos are a priceless legacy for us. But now his camera is there, somewhere in the snow, full of images from his very last trek. I would love nothing more than to get it back,” Bout, the man’s father, told 7sur7.
