Your Kindle books have NEVER looked like this! New e-reader does something Amazon resisted for 16 years

Must read

Amazon’s all-new Kindle Colorsoft releases in the UK today. As the name suggests, this flagship e-reader deviates fromevery other released under the Kindle moniker since 2007 by introducing a colour e-ink screen. According to Amazon, this revolutionary touchscreen panel offers a high-contrast, paper-like experience that replicates the experience of reading graphic novels, travel books, paperbacks and non-fiction in vivid colour.

The Kindle Colorsoft’s 7-inch screen will display the cover of your latest read in glorious whenever the device is asleep — replicating the experience of carrying around a physical book with you. The introduction of a colour e-ink panel has also enabled Amazon to offer colour highlights, so you can mark your favourite passages in yellow, orange, blue, and pink and then share with friends and family over email or on social media.

Amazon says it’s updated the Kindle operating system to enable Colorsoft readers to zoom into images in travel guides, maps, non-fiction books, and graphic novels without any pixelation.

Kindle Colorsoft — yes, we’re stuck with that US spelling even here in Blighty — also offers a choice between standard or vibrant styles on its e-ink screen.

The vibrant new colour e-ink screen isn’t just for viewing stunning photography, maps, and comic book panels …it also means you’ll be able to highlight in a handful of colours to differentiate between your note-taking

Aside from the colourful new glare-free screen, Kindle Colorsoft arrives with a number of other improvements compared with earlier iterations of Amazon’s best-selling e-readers.

Like the new Kindle Paperwhite, it offers faster page turns for a more responsive reading experience, auto-adjusting screen brightness, and the ability to tweak the temperature from a bright white light to a warm amber to match your surroundings.

Kindle Colorsoft has a waterproof design, so you can read worry-free in the pool or bath without the need for a case. And if you drop the Kindle Colorsoft into the sand after a long day of reading on the beach, or accidentally spill a drink over this compact 7-inch e-reader — you can simply rinse it off.

You’ll be able to read for up to 8 weeks on a single charge, Amazon says.

Charging is handled via USB-C, the one-size-fits-all charger used on the latest iPhone, iPad, Windows PCs, Nintendo Switch, Android phones and tablets, and dozens of other popular gadgets. Kindle Colorsoft also supports wireless charging — something of a rareity in the lineup. Amazon offers a stand that’ll prop-up and recharge the Kindle Colorsoft when it’s not in-use, available now for an extra £37.99.

Its 32 GB storage capacity ensures ample space for a vast library of books.

For those who haven’t read a digital book before, these devices offer a number of perks — like the ability to adjust the font size, typeface, line spacing, and brightness. You can also summon a dictionary definition by pressing on the word. Kindle devices also come preloaded with a font designed to make reading easier for those with dyslexia, which can be applied to any fiction or non-fiction book.

Unlike some of its closest rivals, Kindle e-readers have access to Amazon’s extensive library of digital books, boasting millions of titles at your fingertips with a single tap. For those looking for even more reading, a Kindle Unlimited subscription unlocks additional reading material.

For a limited time, Amazon will bundle 3 months of its Kindle Unlimited subscription — a Netflix-like service for books, magazines, and audiobooks for free when you add one of its new Kindle models to your basket. Worth £28.47, you can cancel anytime and still download and read thousands of paperbacks on your brand-new Kindle or the companion app for your iPhone, Android, or PC.
