Xbox Showcase Rumors: Gears of War and Doom Look Likely, With One Potentially on PS5 – IGN

Must read

More details have emerged about this coming Sunday’s Xbox Showcase, including news on two major reported reveals.

Tom Warren’s Notepad newsletter reported today that two big first-party tentpoles will be announced during the livestream: a new Doom installment, as well as Gears of War 6.

To be clear, it had already been reported that a new Doom game would be revealed at the showcase with the title Doom: The Dark Ages, a name that Warren’s reporting also backs up. But the interesting bit of news here is that, according to the newsletter, Doom: The Dark Ages has “been earmarked as a Project Latitude game to launch simultaneously on PS5 in 2025.”

Gears of War 6 will reportedly be announced at the Xbox Showcase, exclusive to Xbox and PC.

The so-called “Project Latitude” is reportedly the internal name for Xbox’s continuing push to bring its first-party titles to rival consoles. That move started earlier this year with previous console exclusives Grounded, Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, and Sea of Thieves going multi-platform.

What isn’t part of that Project Latitude push, however, is apparently the next installment of Gears of War. While that will apparently make an appearance at the showcase, that will reportedly be exclusive to Xbox and PC.

Regardless of their console exclusivity statuses, both games will undoubtably be huge news amid a weekend full of major gaming reveals. A new Doom game had long been theorized among fans, thanks in large part to leaked Microsoft court documents, as well as a recent trademark filing. A sixth Gears of War game isn’t entirely surprising either, as that, too, had been subject to rumors. The last mainline Gear of War game came in 2019.

We’ll obviously learn a whole lot more when the Xbox Showcase airs this Sunday, which IGN will follow up with a chat with Phil Spencer at IGN Live. In the meantime, check out everything we’re expecting from the showcase, including possible news on a handheld Xbox.
