Xbox action-RPG shutting down servers in September

Must read

If you don’t yet have all the Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem achievements, you may want to get a move on as Wolcen Studio has announced it is closing the Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem servers in June. Along with the Xbox server closure, the developer has confirmed it is also “ceasing further development and support” for the action-RPG, which only launched on Xbox in March 2023.

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem servers to close on Septemeber 3, 2024

In a blog post, Wolcen Studio explained that since Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem’s rocky launch, it has “diligently updated Wolcen, enhancing every facet of the game from introducing new chapters and items to improving UI, animations, and the meticulous balancing of skills, items, and gameplay, alongside technical enhancements.” However, despite these changes, the developer has “encountered foundational hurdles that prevent further improvements under the existing framework.”

As a result, Wolcen Studio has announced it will shut down the servers for Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem later this year and will drop support for the action-RPG. “Starting September 3, 2024, Wolcen will no longer support multiplayer functionality. Additionally, we will cease further development and support for the game. This decision allows us to focus on new projects, carrying forward the lessons learned from Wolcen. We are committed to excellence and driven to create new experiences and adventures that we hope you will be eager to join.”

Wolcen Studio notes that the game’s single-player mode will still be available after the server closure and that Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem will get a permanent price reduction.

As for its achievements, it looks like just the Dawn’s Healing achievement will be discontinued once the server closure strikes. Thankfully, it appears simple to unlock, only requiring you to revive a KO’d player in your group.

If you missed it, 505 Games also recently announced it is shutting down the Memories of Mars servers later this month.
