The fiancé of X Factor star Jaymi Hensley died from head injuries after falling from a hotel window, a coroner revealed today.

Oliver Marmon, 33, died in the early hours of August 12 after plummeting 30ft from the third floor of the Hind Hotel in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

Detectives initially launched a murder investigation and 34-year-old Mr Hensley – a member of boyband Union J – was arrested in connection with his partner’s death but later released without charge.

The couple had been due to marry later this month.

Paramedics and police were called to the three-star Hind Hotel at 11.30pm and battled to save the hairstylist’s life but he was pronounced dead at the scene an hour later.

An inquest into Mr Marmon’s death was opened today by Assistant Coroner of Northamptonshire Hassan Shah at Northampton Coroners Court.

He said: ‘Oliver James Marmon died on the 12th of August 2024 at the Hind Hotel in Wellingborough.

‘The provisional cause of death is head injuries pending further tests.’

Mr Shah said that a relative later confirmed the identity of Mr Marmon to PC Chennell of Northamptonshire Police.

The inquest was adjourned, and a provisional date has been set for March 12 next year.

Detectives arrested Mr Hensley on suspicion of murder but he was released after a forensic post-mortem examination carried out at Leicester Royal Infirmary ‘did not support’ Mr Marmon’s death as homicide.

Leading the investigation Detective Chief Inspector Johnny Campbell defended the force’s actions describing the case as ‘complex and fast-moving’ and that it was ‘only right that an incident such as this is treated with the utmost seriousness’.

Mr Marmon’s bereft family posted heartbreaking tributes calling him a ‘spiritual, gentle soul’ who was ‘beautiful both inside and out’.

He and Mr Hensley had been in a relationship since 2009 with the couple announcing their engagement in 2014.

They met when they were both aged 18 and recently shared smiling selfies of themselves on Instagramon trips to the Norwegian fjords and France.

The couple were due to wed on September 24 with Mr Hensley last year using a quote from the late Queen Elizabeth II to describe Oliver as his ‘strength and stay’ during their 14-year relationship.

I’m a touching heartfelt statement following his death, Mr Marmon’s mother Julie and stepfather Steve Peacock said: ‘Words cannot express the devastation and heartbreak I feel over the loss of my beautiful youngest son Oliver, Olly to his friends.

‘I can’t believe I am having to write this. No mother should have to do this.

‘The relationship I had with Oliver was so special, he was my best friend. We spoke every single day. He called me mummy, he used to call me his guardian angel.

‘Oliver was so caring, loving, quiet and always put others before himself. He was a very talented hairdresser, and it was a passion he took seriously.

‘More recently he had been working with his stepdad Steve gardening and loved it so much. He was spiritual and loved the outdoors.

‘He touched many lives and everyone he met fell in love with him. Steve referred to Oliver as his son.

‘I will miss my little Oliver so much and don’t know how I will go on without him.

‘Such a devastating loss to all our family including his brothers Ben and James and sister Alex, as well as his Auntie Loraine, Uncle Simon and cousin Sophie.’

His father Leigh and stepmum Vanessa Marmon added: ‘My darling Oliver, I cannot believe that I am writing this. I would give my life to have saved yours.

‘I am struggling with every emotion you can think of, grief, anger, guilt, the list goes on.

‘I know that you knew how much you were loved. I was so proud of you and everything you achieved. You have been to places that I can only dream of.

‘Whatever you put your mind to, you achieved. When you were younger you were a talented sportsperson, musician and of course, hairdresser – your dream job. You won medals and awards in gymnastics and hairdressing.

‘Your life was too short, but you squeezed so much into it. You were so kind-hearted, a gentle soul who was just so beautiful inside and out.’

Mr Hensley rose to prominence on The X Factor where he auditioned as part of the trio Triple J – consisting of himself, Josh Cuthbert and JJ Hamblett.

They were formed in 2011, but when they took part in the show the following year George Shelley joined the group at the request of the judges, before being renamed Union J.

Union J came fourth in the competition which was won by James Arthur and released their first single in June 2013.

They achieved success with hits including Carry You, Beautiful Life and Loving You Is Easy, with their last single in 2014 reaching number 2 in the charts.

The band split in 2019, although there have been attempts to organise reunion shows in recent years.

In a statement issued to MailOnline last month a spokesman for Mr Hensley read: ‘Jaymi Hensley would like to thank all the love, messages and prayers sent to him over the loss of his beautiful fiancé Oliver Marmon.

‘At this time the family would like the media to respect the privacy of Jaymi and Oliver’s family while they mourn the loss of Oliver.’
