Woman left in disbelief over ‘tacky’ detail bride printed on wedding invites – which ONLY applies to female guests

Must read

Forget the Red Wedding – a woman has shared a wedding invite full of so many red-flags it’s its own kind of massacre.

The guest, believed to be from the US, took to Reddit to post her horror story, fuming after she and her husband were invited to her childhood friend’s wedding – but with caveats.

‘I picked up the notecard and read that and while my husband was invited… I’d be in another room helping to babysit all the children there,’ the Reddit user, who posts under EdenCapwell, wrote.

‘Eden’ explained the bride and groom told her there would be a special room for the children in the church, but she wouldn’t be in the pews watching the ceremony.

‘I’d still need to dress for a wedding in case I wind up in any photos, but I’d be taking my reception meal with the children and I’d be with all the kids for the ceremony,’ the dumbfounded woman shared.

The 50-year-old then shared the kicker: they were also being asked to pay $100 for their meals

‘We have a link to pay it when we digitally RSVP,’ she shared. ‘There was also a link for their gift registry.’

The woman said not only was she insulted to be asked to that, but she’s also disabled and requires a wheelchair and oxygen tank which means it would make it difficult to babysit.

‘I’m not proud of it, but there it is. I could happily sit in a room and LOOK at kids but I’d be pretty useless to prevent a fall or stop a child from choking or anything else that would require me to move quickly,’ she added.

The woman added she had been friends with the couple for a long time, not her husband which puzzled her even further.

‘Why would he be invited to watch the ceremony and be part of the reception but not me?’ she asked.

‘My husband said he’d happily watch the kids and let me attend the wedding and reception but the invitation specified that only other FEMALE invitees would be watching the kids so I doubt they’d let him. It’s just the pure audacity for me.’

The woman, who explained her late mother was friends with the bride’s grandmother, said there is about 200 people invited, said she likes kids and – although she has no biological children of her own – she and her husband are parental figures to some young adults.

The truth eventually came out, with the mother of the bride revealing they didn't want the woman's wheelchair or oxygen tank in the photos (stock image)

In an update top the post, the woman said she spoke to her friend – the mother-of-the-bride – and told her she is pretty upset by the situation, which ended in a huge fight.

‘I told her I understood that the guests were upset because it’s just tacky to 1) be asked to pay and 2) be TOLD you are invited but only to babysit. I told her I would not be a babysitter. At all. No. Just no,’ she shared.

The mother-of-the-bride admitted there had been backlash from guests about paying for their own meals, but was still furious she didn’t want to babysit, saying that as lifelong friends she’d be helping them more by babysitting rather than ‘simply sitting in a pew watching.’

‘I reminded her that I couldn’t physically help at ALL due to, you know, being legally disabled,’ she shared.

The woman was told they understood she physically couldn’t help, but they wanted her to ‘supervise’ with the other babysitters and they trusted her the most.

She responded by telling the mother-of-the-bride it was insulting to be told you’re babysitting.

‘I had no desire to [babysit], especially not dressed in formal wear,’ she raged.

However, in an update, the real reason why the woman was asked to babysit was revealed – admitting they didn’t know if she would be using a walker on the day or be in a walker, and if she was it would ‘ruin video [and] photos.’

After the woman said she could sit in the pew and her husband could hide the wheelchair out the back, the bride’s mother told her the oxygen tank she uses would take up too much space.

‘I said, “No, it would not. I wouldn’t bring a purse in and the oxygen tank either sits on my lap or between my feet.” (it’s like a little backpack),’ she responded, only to be told the oxygen tank would be ‘distracting.’

‘And there you have it. Words were exchanged and she hung up on me. I haven’t been removed from any social media YET but I fully expect to be,’ the woman reported.

‘I already feel awful for being this way at only 50 years old. I didn’t choose this. I didn’t want this. If she thinks it’s awful to having it photographed… just imagine living with it,’ she continued.

‘Which is what I told her before she hung up on me. I’m devastated. Just devastated.’

Reddit users were appalled by her story and shared their thoughts on the post.

‘This is not your friend,’ one user commented.

‘I’m wondering if this was done on purpose – like they felt they had to invite OP (possibly due to family expectations if long time friends) but deliberately added the note to make OP as uncomfortable as possible and not want to come,’ another mused.

‘Agreed. This whole wedding sounds so tacky. Such a lack of class to not only exclude guests, put them to work and then expect them to pay their own meal AND provide a gift? That’s a BIG YEAH NAH,’ another Reddit user commented.

‘Given that OP has a very obvious and visible disability, I have to assume that she “didn’t fit” the bride’s “aesthetic” for the wedding,’ they added.
