A festival which was due to take place over the August bank holiday weekend has been cancelled due to costs.
Witcombe Festival, which has been running since 2012, was due to take place in Gloucester from 23 to 25 August with a line-up including Example, Professor Green, Razorlight and Urban Soul Orchestra.
However, in a statement organisers said they had decided to cancel it due to the “ongoing cost of living crisis” which “has significantly impacted our ticket sales and overall planning”.
Troy Baxter from Gloucester, who was due to perform as Tripzilla MC at the event, said while it took the festival “a bit long” to confirm the cancellation rumours, it was “good” that they had now addressed it.
He said: “It’s a shame really because I was going to enjoy performing there again, it was going to be my third time.
“Unfortunately that’s how it goes sometimes, hopefully they can come back in the future.”
The statement said they had looked at plans to “reduce capacity and the size of the festival”, but it was not possible due to “strict licensing conditions”.
“We have always prided ourselves on delivering an unforgettable experience for our festival-goers, and we believe that cancelling the event is the most responsible course of action to ensure we can return stronger in the future,” the statement read
Thanking people for their “patience, support and loyalty”, the festival said they were “committed to returning with an even more spectacular event” in the future and were looking forward “to celebrating with you all once the situation stabilises”.
Those who have already purchased tickets will soon receive refunds, the statement said.
