Wisley development approved by planning inspector

Must read

Plans to build 1,730 homes near RHS Wisley have been approved by a planning inspector.

The proposal was put forward by Taylor Wimpey for the site of the former Wisley Airfield in Surrey.

The developer launched an appeal after a consultation on the plans was delayed.

Local groups had claimed there was insufficient infrastructure to support the development, while the Royal Horticultural Society had voiced concerns over possible harm to plants on its site.

After considering evidence from both the developer and objectors, the planning inspector has concluded the development should be allowed, even though it would mean the loss of some agricultural land.

The plans put forward by Taylor Wimpey, which has owned the site since 2020, include shops and a proposed community centre which will include healthcare provision.
