Motherwell and Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson is urging constituents to consider packing a carbon monoxide detector as an essential travel item.
The SNP MSP gave the advice ahead of the summer season when more people are travelling.
Ms Adamson convenes the Scottish Parliament’s Cross Party Group on Accident Prevention and Safety Awareness.

She said: “Tragically, every year we hear about people who have died due to carbon monoxide poisoning. This is often because accommodation did not have a detector or the safety equipment was poorly maintained.
“Carbon monoxide safety is a frequent subject at our Cross Party Group and I am urging constituents in Motherwell and Wishaw to familiarise yourself with the common signs of carbon monoxide poisoning, pack a detector while travelling, and ensure your own home appliances are checked.
“As we approach the summer months, and many are thinking about their travels, please consider packing a carbon monoxide alarm alongside your other essential travel items.
“Organisations such as the Gas Safety Register, RoSPA, and the Safer Tourism Foundation have a host of resources on carbon monoxide safety.
“I want everyone to enjoy their summer travels, and this is a simple measure to make sure that the holidays are as safe as possible.”
