The Duchess of Gloucester was effortlessly elegant in a cream jacket as she attended day twelve of Wimbledon – have made an appearance on day three of the championship as well.

Brigitte, 78, is the wife of Richard, the Duke of Gloucester – who is the late Queen’s cousin.

The couple married on July 8, 1972 at St Andrew’s Church in Barnwell, Northamptonshire.

Her husband was born Prince Richard of Gloucester and met his Danish future wife, Birgitte van Deurs, who was studying at the Bell School of Languages, at Cambridge University in 1965.

He was working as an architect but cut his career short when his older brother Prince William of Gloucester tragically died in a plane crash seven weeks after their marriage.

Richard then became the heir to his father, Henry, Duke of Gloucester- one of George VI‘s brothers.

Prince Richard and Birgitte had not expected to embark on a life of duty but did so after their marriage when he became the heir.

They have spent 50 years as working royals and visited charities and organisations carrying out hundreds of engagements together for sectors such as humanitarian issues, the environment and veterans.

Prince Michael of Kent – who is related to Tsar Nicholas through his grandfather George V, was a first cousin of the assassinated Russian ruler.

He looked to be in high spirits as he attended Wimbledon with his wife today.

Prince Michael is also a cousin of the late Prince Philip through his mother, Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, who was the niece of the Duke of Edinburgh’s father, Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark.

Born just weeks before his father’s tragic death in a plane crash in 1942, Prince Michael is the youngest of three.

The oldest, the Duke of Kent, now 87, inherited his title when he was only six. His sister, Princess Alexandra, 86, is, like the Duke, a working royal.

Whilst he has to cope with being the youngest of three, Prince Michael can boast about the fact that one of his godparents was wartime US President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

He agreed to take on the honour after being asked to do so by the Prince’s parents, due to the fact he was born on the US’s Independence Day.

When the Queen and Prince Philip married at Westminster Abbey in 1947, Prince Michael, then aged just five, was one of the page boys.

Photos of the ceremony show him holding up the then Princess’s train as she stood next to her husband-to-be in front of Archbishop of Canterbury Geoffrey Fisher.

The Prince was later among the guests at the Queen’s Coronation in 1953.

Like his brother, Prince Michael was educated at Eton College and had a long Army career.

Any England footballer will know Luka Modric as the man who caused heartache for the Three Lions when his Croatia side ended their World Cup run in 2018.

Following the defeat, the Croatian captain criticised the ‘arrogance’ of British pundits for ‘underestimating’ his side, who beat England 2-1 in the critical match.

However, Modric, 38, has seen a less successful run in this year’s Euros – as Croatia didn’t make it through the group stages of the international tournament.

Able to make the best out of a bad situation, Modric’s consolation prize is one of the best seats in the house in London.
