Jadon Sancho’s future remains topic of discussion as he returns to Manchester United following a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund.
The 24-year-old is expected to report for pre-season training on Monday, though it is unclear if he will participate in the senior squad’s sessions. Sancho had a public falling out with manager Erik ten Hag after he was dropped from the matchday squad for the defeat to Arsenal on September 3 due to his performances in training.
Sancho swiftly accused the Dutchman of lying in a public post on his X, formerly Twitter, page. After refusing to apologise, he was relocated to the dressing room in the academy building at United’s Carrington training complex.

Sancho was later loaned out to his former club Dortmund with the Bundesliga outfit paying United a £6.3million loan fee to re-sign him.
With that said, MEN Sport has rounded up everything you need to know about the winger.
Erik ten Hag spat
Following the public spat and refusing to apologise for his outburst on social media, it is thought that Sancho was barred from all the facilities in United’s training ground at Carrington. talkSPORT reported that the winger was not even allowed to eat with the first-team players and had to dine alongside the academy players instead.
What has Ten Hag said?
The Dutch boss admitted he was not surprised to see Sancho play a starring role in helping Dortmund reach the Champions League final. However, he suggested that will not offer the winger a way back in his plans, saying: “No (nothing has changed about his future).
“But we know Jadon Sancho is a fantastic football player, so that is not a surprise for us. That is not the issue. I follow international football and follow the players on loan at other clubs. He played very well [against Paris Saint-Germain] and he’s a very good player.
“He showed why Manchester United bought him. And he showed he represents a high value for Manchester United, which is good. I’m happy for Jadon, for the performance yesterday and we’ll see what is going to happen in the future.”
Transfer situation
Sancho is available for transfer and is valued at around £40m. United bought Sancho for £73m from Dortmund in 2021.
The 24-year-old has caught the eye of a number of clubs after impressive displays for Dortmund. Juventus are said to have held talks with the club over a potential transfer, while he is also on the radar of both Barcelona and Dortmund.
When did Sancho play his last game for United?
Sancho last played for United in their 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest on August 26. After Ten Hag explained his absence at the Emirates Stadium, Sancho wrote: “Please don’t believe everything you read. I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue. I have conducted myself very well in training this week.
“I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!”
When do United players return to training?
Players who are not involved in the Euros and Copa America will report to pre-season training on Monday, July 8. United will head to America for their pre-season tour with friendlies set to take place.
These will include meetings with two of United’s Premier League rivals, Arsenal (July 28) in Los Angeles and Liverpool (August 4) in Columbia, South Carolina.
They will also play Real Betis on August 1.
What will happen now?
It remains unclear what Ten Hag’s decision will be over Sancho’s future, but United expect him to report to training on Monday. With no apology known to be made to Ten Hag yet, Sancho could yet find himself marginalised yet again ahead of a probably transfer in the coming weeks.
