Where Jacob Rees-Mogg’s six children got their very unusual names from as they steal the show in Meet the Rees-Moggs… where his very eloquent daughter admits: ‘Yeah, we are quite posh!’

A new fly-on-the-wall documentary is set to be released next week following Jacob Rees-Mogg and his family in what has been dubbed the ‘British Kardashians’.

Meet the Rees-Moggs is set to star the former MP, his wife Helena and their six young children: Mary, Peter, Thomas, Anselm, Alfred and Sixtus.

The Discovery+ documentary will also follow his failed General Election campaign after he spectacularly lost his North East Somerset seat last week while standing next to a man dressed as baked beans.

The trailer shows the family around their mansion in Somerset alongside clips of Jacob out campaigning in the general election

Mr Rees-Mogg married Helena Anne Beatrix Wentworth Fitzwilliam de Chair in 2007 and last had a child in 2017, with the arrival of son Sixtus Dominic Boniface Christopher.

The other children’s full names are Alfred Wulfric Leyson Pius, Thomas Wentworth Somerset Dunstan, Peter Theodore Alphege, Anselm Charles Fitzwilliam and Mary Anne Charlotte Emma Rees-Mogg.

With religion playing a big part in Mr Rees-Mogg’s life, many of his children’s names are rooted in Christianity.

We take a look at where the names of his six children come from as they seemingly steal the show in the documentary Meet the Rees-Moggs.

Peter Theodore Alphege, known as ‘mini-Mogg’, was the couple’s first child being born in 2007, the same year the pair got married.

While Peter and Theodore are more recognisable names, he takes the name Alphege from a saint and former Archbishop of Canterbury.

The Rees-Moggs are catholic with the family often attending the Tridentine Mass.

Earlier this year, Mr Rees-Mogg told Matt Forde’s Political Party Podcast how son Peter, 17, received hate mail slating his father after he lost his seat of 14 years in the general election.

Next born is Mary Anne Charlotte Emma who arguably has the least eccentric name of all the Rees-Mogg children.

She takes her names from Mr Rees-Mogg’s three sisters, Emma, Charlotte and Annunziata Mary.

Mary was born in 2008 making her 16-years-old.

Thomas Wentworth Somerset Dunstan

In 2010, Thomas Wentworth Somerset Dunstan was born.

Thomas, 14, was chosen as it was the name of Mr Rees-Mogg’s brother, while Wentworth refers to the surname of Helena’s ancestor, Charles Watson-Wentworth.

Charles Watson-Wentworth was the 2nd Marquess of Rockingham.

Thomas’ third name was Helena’s father’s name while Dunstan is another reference to a saint and Archbishop of Canterbury.

Anselm Charles Fitzwilliam

Anselm Charles Fitzwilliam Rees-Mogg was named after another Archbishop of Canterbury with Helena undertsoof to have desrcibed it as a ‘lovely’ name.

His third name was inspired by Charles Watson-Wentworth’s nephew, William Fitzwilliam.

Anselm was born in 2012 and is now aged 12.

Alfred Wulfric Leyson Pius

The couple’s fifth child Alfred Wulfric Leyson Pius, 8, was born in 2016.

His first name is a nod to Alfred the Great, the King of the Anglo-Saxons.

Wulfric comes from the Rees-Mogg’s second multimillion pound Somerset home Gournay Court, where the saint Wulfric was born.

Leyson is a reference to Louis Leyson Rees-Mogg, Mr Rees-Mogg’s grandfather’s first cousin who died at 25-years-old in 1915.

Sixtus Dominic Boniface Christopher

Sixtus Dominic Boniface Christopher is the last of the six children as Mr Rees-Mogg took to Instagram to announce the new arrival in 2017.

‘Helena and I announce with great joy that we have a baby Sixtus Dominic Boniface Christopher, a brother for Peter, Mary, Thomas, Anselm and Alfred.’ Mr Rees-Mogg said.

His first name is a reference to Pope Sixtus II with the couple first intending to spell the name Xystus, but later decided against it.

The name Sixtus is shared with five popes, with the most recent in 1590.
