WhatsApp’s video calling functionality has all the essential features. However, Meta is now making it even better by adding three new features: support for up to 32 people in video calls on Mac and Windows, screen sharing with audio, and Speaker Spotlight.
WhatsApp for Mac and Windows now supports up to 32 people on a video call
Currently, when you video call using an Android or iOS device, WhatsApp allows you to add 32 people to the call. However, up until now, if you video-called using WhatsApp for Windows, you could add only 16 people to the call, and if you video-called using WhatsApp for Mac, you can add only 8 people to the call. Well, now WhatsApp’s Windows and Mac apps support adding up to 32 people on a video call.
The story continues after the video…
Screen sharing with audio is now possible
Up until now, when you shared your device’s screen on a video call, WhatsApp only shared the video and not the audio. So, if your device was playing audio, the app didn’t share it with other people on the video call. Well, not anymore. Now when you share your device’s screen on a video call, WhatsApp will share the video as well as the audio. The new feature enables you to watch videos together with your friends.
WhatsApp now highlights the speaker in a video call
WhatsApp now highlights the speaker (the person who is speaking) in a video call by making their video feed appear first in the carousel of video feeds and surrounds that person’s video feed with a white outline.
Meta says that it will roll out these features to the public over the next few weeks.
