Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck yesterday, August 20, which just happened to be the second anniversary of their giant Georgia wedding. And despite the very public (and seemingly pointed!) filing, neither J.Lo nor Ben have spoken out about the split. So…why are they getting divorced after just two years of marriage? Here’s what sources have said—and buckle up, it’s a lot.
Back on May 17, an insider told Us Weekly that J.Lo and Ben “started having issues a few months ago as Jen had started ramping up work commitments and prepping for her tour. Jen is very focused on work. They are on two completely different pages most of the time.”
Meanwhile, another Us Weekly source got a little more specific, saying that finances and parenting had “exacerbated” said issues.
A couple days later on May 21, Entertainment Tonight spoke to someone who said that “Ben feels like Jen has a hard time feeling satisfied and that’s one of the issues they’re facing. Ben is one of the only people who feels comfortable enough to be honest and real with Jen. It’s part of why Jen loves him but also why she’s upset with him.”
More recently-ish in July, a Daily Mail source close to the situation said that ultimately Ben was not the person J.Lo “built him up to be,” and the relationship had “taken too much of a toll on her and because of this she has lost sight of who she is and what she stands for.”
In other words, things were not great! And it looks like they might stay messy, ’cause…
