Must read

I’m A Celeb’s Tulisa has shared she is demisexual in the newest episode, which has led many to look up what it actually means.

Tulisa Contostavlos, most well-known for her time in N-Dubz and as a judge on X-Factor, is one of the various celebs to appear in this year’s edition of the famous reality show.

Joining Tulisa is Wagatha Christie herself, Coleen Rooney, as well as McFly’s Danny Jones, Podcaster and influencer GK Barry, Strictly Pro Oti Mabuse, and as of later this week, Love Island alumnus Maura Higgins.

This week’s episode was heavy on discussions around sexuality, with GK Barry revealing how she came out to her parents.

The podcaster, whose real name is Grace Keeling, spoke in the camp about how her relationship with footballer girlfriend Ella Rutherford caused her to come out to her parents.

Tulisa meanwhile discussed her sexuality in a discussion with Radio 1 DJ Dean McCullough.

After revealing she ‘hated’ using dating apps, she said: “I feel like I’m demi-sexual, I need to have a really close emotional bond with someone.”

She later said: “I’m a slow, slow burner, I’ve been celibate for over three years.”

After being asked by Dean about what it’s like to be celibate for that period of time, the N Dubz singer said: “I’m not an overly sexualised person.

“For me, it’s all about the connection and the emotions that I feel with someone and then wanting to express them in that way.”

This discussion led many to question what demisexuality is.

Demisexuality is a form of asexuality in which someone only develops sexual feelings for someone else after a period of forming an emotional bond.

Only then will they have any form of sexual attraction to another person.

Demisexuality exists all the way across the sexual spectrum; you can be straight, gay, bisexual, pansexual, or any other sexuality and be on the demisexual spectrum.

This also applies to gender identities, with demisexuality existing amongst all genders.

Tulisa’s admission received a positive reaction online from many who were happy to see the mainstream representation.

One tweet said: “OH YES TULISA demisexual representation”.

Another said: “Like I couldn’t adore this f**king qween more, Tulisa saying she thinks she might be demisexual is EVRYTHING!”

A third read; “DEMISEXUAL MENTION ON IMMA CELEB I MOVED”.

A fourth sweetly admitted: “#Tulisa thank you! I’ve just learned that I’m a demisexual after years of wondering why I’m unlike most gay guys”.
