Prince William congratulated the Three Lions as a beloved Aston Villa icon scored the winning goal in Wednesday’s semi-final against The Netherlands.

Ollie Watkins, who plays for the Prince of Wales’s favourite team Aston Villa, scored the winning goal to take England through to the Euros final to play against Spain this Sunday at 8pm.


Taking to social media, Prince William, who is also president of the FA, posted: “What a beauty, Ollie!

“Congratulations England! #EURO2024 Finalists W.”

The “W” indicated that the post came directly from Prince William, who runs the social media account alongside his wife, Princess Kate.

King Charles also issued a congratulatory message to the England squad.

The monarch sent a cheeky message to Gareth Southgate following England’s victory in Wednesday’s semi-final against The Netherlands.

The King, 75, took to social media with a congratulatory message to the Three Lions, who won 2-1 in Wednesday’s semi-final match at the Euros.

Charles wrote: “My wife and I join all our family in wishing you the warmest congratulations on reaching the final of the UEFA European Championship – and in sending our very best wishes for Sunday’s match.

“If I may encourage you to secure victory before the need for any last-minute wonder-goals or another penalties drama, I am sure the stresses on the nation’s collective heart rate and blood pressure would be greatly alleviated!
