Well-loved cafe in Co Antrim goes on the market after long hours ‘take their toll’ on owners

Must read

Toast on Main Street in Cullybackey has long been popular with people living in the area, serving traditional dishes like roasts, fries, wraps and sandwiches.

Sisters Lynette Millar and Leanne Wiseman, who have run the venue for nearly a decade, announced their decision to move on on Facebook. But they emphasised the business would stay open for the time being until a sale takes place.

Addressing their “lovely customers,” they said: “We have decided to put Toast up for sale. This has been a very hard decision for both of us but the long hours are starting to take their toll and we feel it’s time for a change.

“In the meantime we will be open for business as normal and hope you will all continue to support us.

“Our staff are like a second family to us and we would like to thank them so much for firstly all their hard work and secondly their support in this difficult decision, they truly are the best.”

Customers said they were shocked by the announcement, with 142 responses paying tribute to the owners.

“An amazing wee place, with amazing people. a group of girls who worked really hard and really well together, “ one said. “You really did build something special.”

Another praised “the exceptional standards that you have set in relation to your food, the cleanliness everywhere and the customer service, will be really hard to come by elsewhere.

“Toast has become a real family favourite and we’ve many special memories of family times there, both during normal opening times and at special functions, and nothing was ever too much to ask.”

The owners were credited for “faithfully serving the district 100%” with good food, friendly staff and good service. “We wish you a good sale and every blessing in what the future holds,”

The venue has been affected by the challenges facing many operators in the trade, posting on its Facebook in April that it would be closed for two days due to staff shortages.

The premises at 93 to 95 Main Street are now up for sale for £295,000 through selling agents Lynn & Brewster in Ballymena. Their advertisement said: “This popular and thriving premises is being offered for sale together with the option to purchase the goodwill, fixtures and fittings.

“Extensively refurbished approximately nine years ago, Toast has become a well-known destination providing freshly made food and beverages throughout the day.”

Charlie Lynn from Lynn & Brewster said: “It’s a very well-known destination, and hopefully someone will want to take it on and run it.”

The property includes dining areas seating up to 86, and a kitchen. On the first floor, there is a storage area, staff kitchen, office and boardroom.

There is access for deliveries and capacity for up to 18 cars on site.

Lynn & Brewster added: “The property and business provide excellent potential trading from an established basis and would be ideal for an existing experienced operator wishing to extend their portfolio.”
