Weekly poll: Will Oppo Find X8 or Find X8 Pro be your next phone?

Must read

Things are heating up in the flagship space as Oppo unveiled the Find X8 series. These are flagships with a special focus on the camera (with help from Hasselblad). This year there is even a camera shutter key and the Alert slider is back (both on the Pro model only).

The Oppo Find X8 Pro is not a direct sequel to the Find X7 Ultra (an X8 Ultra might arrive later on). So, instead of a curved display, it has an almost flat micro-quad-curved 6.78” LTPO panel (1264p+, 120Hz, 10-bit colors). It is powered by the Dimensity 9400 chipset and an enormous 5,910mAh battery (with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging).

The main camera has a 50MP 1/1.4” LYT-808 sensor, which is larger than what the vanilla X8 has to work with. In addition, there is a 3x tele and a 120° ultra wide. The Pro model also has a periscope lens – 135mm (6x). All cameras have 50MP sensors.

Weekly poll: would you buy an Oppo Find X8 or Find X8 Pro as your next flagship?

The Oppo Find X8 is smaller than both the X8 Pro and the X7. Note: smaller, not small. It has a 6.59” display, after all, another LTPO panel (120Hz, 10-bit). This model is also powered by the Dimensity 9400 and an impressive 5,630mAh battery (80W wired, 50W wireless charging). As mentioned above, the triple 50MP camera (main, 3x tele and ultra wide) includes a smaller sensor in the main, but the 3x and ultra wide modules are the same. The big difference is the lack of a periscope lens on this one.

The Find X7 was a bit disappointing with its IP65 dust and water resistance rating. This year Oppo went all out and both the X8 models are rated IP68 and IP69 (the latter being for resistance against hot water jets, in case you want to rinse your phone more aggressively).

The Oppo Find X8 Pro starts at CNY 5,300 ($745) for a 12/256GB model, while the base price of the Oppo Find X8 is CNY 4,200 ($590) for the same 12/256GB memory.

Let’s look at some competition. The vivo X200 and X200 Pro went on sale last week. The vanilla model is CNY 4,300 for a 12/256GB model, essentially matching the X8. The X200 series also uses the Dimensity 9400 and is rated IP68/IP69. The vanilla X200 doesn’t have an LTPO display (it’s a 6.67” OLED panel, 1260p+, 120Hz, 10-bit). Its camera setup is comparable to the Find X8. The battery is larger at 5,800mAh, but supports only wired charging (90W).

The vivo X200 Pro is CNY 5,300 (matching the X8 Pro) for a 12/256GB phone. This one does have an LTPO display and while there is no second tele module, the 3.7x lens on this one is backed with an impressive 200MP sensor for extra zoom. The 6,000mAh battery supports both 90W wired and 30W wireless charging.

There is also a vivo X200 Pro mini (CNY 4,700 for 12/256GB), which launched this Friday. It’s essentially a smaller version of the Pro. With a 6.31” LTPO display, it measures 71.8mm wide and weighs 187g. The battery is a bit smaller but still mighty at 5,700mAh (90W/30W charging). The only real downgrade here is that the tele camera has a 3x lens and a 50MP sensor.

We don’t know which vivo X200 models will be available globally, but Oppo did confirm that the Find X8 series will be widely available. There is a version of the Find X8 Pro with satellite communication, but that is unlikely to be available outside of China.

The OnePlus 13 will be unveiled on October 31 (Thursday) and is confirmed to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, plus triple 50MP cameras, including the same LYT-808 sensor as the Find X8 Pro. There’s no word on pricing yet, however.

There are also the Xiaomi 15 series (with Snapdragon 8 Elite), which will be officially unveiled on October 29. The Honor Magic7 series (coming next week) is also confirmed to use the Qualcomm chip, as is the Realme GT7 Pro (coming later this month).

We don’t have the full picture for what Xiaomi, Honor and Realme are cooking, but as we said in the opening paragraph, things are heating up in the flagship space.

But going back to the Oppo phones, how do you feel about getting an Oppo Find X8 Pro?
