A24 on Wednesday unveiled the first trailer for We Live in Time, its romantic drama starring Academy Award nominees Andrew Garfield (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) and Florence Pugh (Oppenheimer), which is slated to world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, hitting theaters in limited release on October 11.
In the film from two-time BAFTA-winning director John Crowley (Brooklyn), Almut (Pugh) and Tobias (Garfield) are brought together in a surprise encounter that changes their lives. Through snapshots of their life together — falling for each other, building a home, becoming a family — a difficult truth is revealed that rocks its foundation. As they embark on a path challenged by the limits of time, they learn to cherish each moment of the unconventional route their love story has taken.
The trailer watches as Almut and Tobias meet cute in a hospital room. Bruised, and with a brace around his neck, Tobias asks Almut, “So sorry, but do we know each other?”
“Yeah, no,” she replies, admitting that she’s the reason he’s injured, as she’s just accidentally hit him with her car.
Later, we watch as the duo fall in love and have a daughter together, leading a blissful life, up until the point when Almut receives an ominous diagnosis.
Written by Nick Payne (The Last Letter from Your Lover), We Live in Time was developed by StudioCanal, which produced the film alongside SunnyMarch’s Leah Clarke and Adam Ackland, as well as Guy Heeley. Benedict Cumberbatch served as executive producer. The film is slated to open against against Morgan Neville’s Piece by Piece, the Pharrell Williams biopic told in Legos from Focus Features, as well as titles like Terrifier 3 and My Hero Academia: You’re Next.
Currently in theaters with MaXXXine — the third horror film in a trilogy from Ti West, on the heels of X and Pearl — A24’s slate for the remainder of the year also includes the prison drama Sing Sing (July 12) starring Colman Domingo, The Eggers Brothers’ horror thriller The Front Room (September 6), Aaron Schimberg’s darkly comedic thriller A Different Man (September 20) starring an unrecognizable Sebastian Stan, the Hugh Grant thriller Heretic (November 15) from Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, and the erotic thriller Babygirl (December 20), marking Halina Reijn’s follow-up to Bodies Bodies Bodies.
