Wayne Osmond’s family confirmed the singer died on New Year’s Day aged 73 in an emotional statement honouring his life.

Following the devastating announcement, his brother Jay Osmond broke his silence with a post on Instagram alongside a heartwarming photo of the star.

In the caption, he wrote: “A true legend has left the Earth. My heart is deeply saddened for the loss of my brother Wayne.

“It is said that where there is great love there is great grief as we part during our earthly journey.”

Jay continued: “Throughout my life I have always felt most connected to Wayne out of all of my siblings. He was my roommate and my confidant over the decades.

“What gives me joy is to know that my brother ‘Wings’ has earned his wings and I can only imagine the heights he is soaring right now.”

The musician concluded: “The reunion he must’ve had with Father and Mother I’m sure was spectacular!”

Wayne’s death rocked fans across the world as he marked the first death from the iconic sibling musical group.

He was born the fourth eldest of the nine Osmond children and began his singing career as a youngster in a barbershop quartet with his older brother Alan and younger brothers Merrill and Jay.

They went on to find global stardom during the 1970s after being discovered in Disneyland, adding brothers Donny and Jimmy in the process.

In a statement, the Osmond family said: “His legacy of faith, music, love and laughter have influenced the lives of many people around the world.

“He would want everyone to know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, that families are forever and that banana splits are the best dessert. We love him and will miss him dearly.”

Wayne is survived by his wife of over 50 years Kathlyn, their five children and all of his siblings, Virl, Tom, Alan, Merrill, Jay, Donny, Marie and Jimmy.
