A video of Giorgia Meloni, the Italian prime minister, rolling her eyes appears to have stolen the show at the Nato summit in Washington DC.
The footage shows the world leader grimacing and crossing her eyes in apparent frustration at the 20-minute delay to the scheduled arrival of Joe Biden, the US president, to the summit.
Ms Meloni was caught on camera with her arms folded as she made the gesture while waiting with Alexander Stubb, the Finnish president, and other officials.
She also pretended to look at an imaginary watch on her wrist to indicate her impatience.
Mr Stubb was then seen checking the time on his phone before the prime minister again rolled her eyes with a disgruntled look on her face. She then appeared to smile briefly for the cameras.
It is not the first time Ms Meloni has rolled her eyes in public. She has also been seen making the gesture in apparent frustration during television interviews.
At the end of the Nato summit, the prime minister reiterated Italy’s support for Ukraine and indirectly chided Matteo Salvini, her deputy premier and transport minister, after he suggested that sending military aid to Kyiv was only prolonging the war.
“The balance sheet of this Nato summit is positive,” Ms Meloni told reporters.
