MILLIONS of Brits flying next month have been warned they face major disruption which could see travellers miss their flight.
Jet2 has issued a statement for anyone jetting off from Manchester Airport from June 10 as they could face major delays getting there.
Manchester Airport is urging travellers to plan ahead due to resurfacing works taking place on the M56, advising passengers should arrive earlier than usual.
The airport said: “National Highways are carrying out essential overnight resurfacing works on both sides of the M56 between Junction 4 and Junction 7.”
The statement added: “Works are due to start on Monday 10 June 2024 and completed by August 2024.
“Closures will take place between 21:00 and 05:00, Monday to Friday, and extending to 07:00 on Saturdays.
“This will include a mix of full overnight closures and slip closures.”
The airport though did assure passengers that: “Signed diversion routes will be in place. Delays are expected, please allow extra time for your journeys.
“Check for any closures or congestion on Traffic England before you travel.”
A statement on Jet2.com’s website told its customers: “Manchester Airport – Road Works until August 2024.
“We have been made aware of road works between Junction 5 and 6 of the M56 beginning Monday 10th June expecting to be completed by the end of August 2024.”
The airline added: “There will be closures of the M56, please refer to National Highways for specific dates and times of closures throughout this time frame.
“Please allow enough to time to travel to Manchester Airport as all Jet2.com flights are due to operate as scheduled.”
It comes just days after Jet2 announced six new flights from a major UK airport.
All new added countries will be available for the 2025/26 season – with Jet2 announcing them early so holidaymakers can beat the rush.
They include Chambery, Geneva, Grenoble, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Turin.
Extra flights will be taking of from from Birmingham Airport, who recently scrapped strict 100ml hand luggage liquid rules.
Airport disruption over the summer
Upcoming strike action could mean flights are cancelled during the peak summer months.
Air traffic controllers at Paris Orly Airport have confirmed strike action will take place later this month.
Staff from the Unsa-Inca are threatening to walk out from June 11-13, less than a month after their previous strike action.
The number of flights affected this time are yet to be confirmed, as it depends on the number of air traffic controllers who decide to walk out.
And it’s not just passengers travelling to and from Paris that are affected, as it also affects airlines flying over French airspace.
The strike action is due to disagreements over pay rises and and recruitment.
A similar strike back in April was called off at the last minute, but around 70 per cent of flights were still cancelled.
New flights will give land-locked Midlanders and the rest of the country more options to depart from if they’re in need of a skiing or snowboarding escape.
Jet2 recently launched a package holiday to Sozopol, Bulgaria.
The tour operator confirmed that it will be increasing its summer capacity to Sozopol by adding hotels across the seaside town to its portfolio.
Jet2 already has direct flights from nine UK bases, including Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool John Lennon, London Stansted, Manchester and Newcastle International, to Burgas Airport in Bulgaria.
OTHER NEW ROUTES
Jet2 isn’t the only airline expanding its offering in 2024.
Last month, easyJet announced the opening of its first new UK base in over a decade.
The budget airline, which already has eight bases around the UK, will operate 16 new routes from its brand-new base at Birmingham Airport.
From Birmingham Airport, easyJet will fly to Barcelona, Malaga, Alicante, Fuerteventura and Tenerife.
Other new routes are set to include Antalya and Dalaman in Turkey, as well as other destinations in Greece like Rhodes, Kos, Heraklion and Corfu.
EasyJet will also operate flights from Birmingham Airport to Berlin, Sharm El Sheikh, Larnaca Intl and Jersey.
The low-cost airline is also set to operate a brand-new route between London Gatwick and a newly-revamp airport in Italy.
The airline will fly twice weekly from London Gatwick to Pontecagnano (Salerno) Airport, which is currently undergoing a huge £400million renovation, making easyJet the first UK airline to operate commercial flights to Salerno Airport.
From July, twice-weekly flights will depart every Tuesday and Saturday, with one-way tickets starting from £27.99.
Ryanair is also launching flights from Cornwall Airport and Cardiff Airport, with new routes to Paris and Faro among some of those announced.
