Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 devs “saddened” by recent leak

Must read

We recently warned players looking forward to collecting the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 achievements to be mindful of spoilers, as a playable build of the game has appeared online. The Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 developers have commented on the leak, saying that it’s “disheartening that many of the surprises” they had in store for the Xbox third-person shooter have now been spoiled.

Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive comment on Space Marine 2 leak

Yesterday, we reported that a playable build of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has leaked, with players posting gameplay online. Saber Interactive has been dishing out copyright claims to have videos removed, but even with the team’s best efforts, there is still a high risk of running into spoilers.

Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment have now shared a statement on social media, revealing that the leaked build will be “almost a year old” by the time Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 launches on Xbox Series X|S in September.

“Our teams have poured years of hard work, passion, and dedication into creating a game worthy of your hopes and expectations, and it’s disheartening that many of the surprises we worked to keep secret were spoiled,” the statement reads. “We’re saddened that this build, which will be almost a year old by the time we launch, is how some of our most eager fans will first experience Space Marine 2.

“Our unwavering commitment has been to deliver the best possible game for our players. This was the driving force behind our decision to spend more time on development and ensure we deliver the best experience we can.”

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 was originally down for a 2023 launch but was delayed into 2024 for additional polish last November. It came as disappointing news for fans looking forward to the sequel after the fantastic Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine in 2011 — one of my favorite games from the Xbox 360 generation.

“We’re asking everyone to avoid this unfinished build and to not spoil the game for those excited to experience it for the first time at launch,” the statement continues. “Space Marine 2 will release on September 9, and the best way to support our teams’ hard work is to play the game as they’ve always intended.”

For those of us not interested in playing an outdated build of the game, we don’t have long to wait until we can wreak havoc on the Tyranid hordes. Check out everything we know about Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 for plenty of spoiler-free details.
