Vinted has become a lifesaver for those looking to declutter and make some money in the process.
The platform, which has gained popularity over the past few years, allows users to sell their unwanted items, primarily clothes and accessories, without any selling fees. This means you get to keep all your earnings once the buyer confirms receipt of the goods.
However, if you’ve noticed a recent slump in your sales, one clever seller has found a ‘magic button’ that can push your items to the top of people’s feeds, increasing the likelihood of making a sale.

TikTok user Lisa recently shared her Vinted trick, claiming it helped her earn £123.48 in just 15 days. She suggests using this method sparingly to avoid having to pay for items to be ‘showcased’.
“Don’t overuse this hack, because it works really well and we don’t want Vinted to catch on! ” she warned. “If you put yourself onto holiday mode, when you take yourself off holiday mode, it boosts your whole wardrobe… It pushes you back out and you are shown again to people.”, reports the Mirror.
Lisa suggests that sellers should switch to holiday mode for at least a ‘few days’ rather than just minutes or hours, to potentially boost their sales. Her advice has gone viral, racking up an impressive 594,000 views and sparking hundreds of comments.
One user hailed the tip as ‘genius’, sharing that their sales surged after they turned off holiday mode. “This explains why my sales boosted a LOT after I came off holiday mode,” one commenter revealed.
Another shared: “I’ve only ever used it when I’m actually going on holiday but I always get sales when I come back.”
Meanwhile, a third remarked: “I didn’t realise this was a thing, thought it was a coincidence every time it happened to me.”
Earlier in the year, online marketplaces such as Vinted, Depop, and eBay were in the spotlight as the government announced a crackdown on those avoiding tax. While HMRC could already request transaction data from UK-based platforms, these companies are now required to report details to the taxman.
Currently, individuals can earn up to £1,000 from ‘side hustles’ like online selling without having to declare it. However, earnings beyond this threshold within a tax year mean you must register as self-employed and submit a self-assessment tax return when the financial year ends.
HMRC has announced new regulations aimed at helping online sellers understand and meet their tax obligations. “These new rules will support our work to help online sellers get their tax right first time,” HMRC explained.
“They will also help us detect any deliberate non-compliance, ensuring a level playing field for all taxpayers.”
The tax authority also advised individuals to keep a record of their earnings from platforms like Vinted, even if they fall below the taxable income threshold.
Before joining Vinted, users are urged to thoroughly read the terms and conditions as well as the catalogue rules, as failure to comply could lead to account suspension. Further information is available here.
