The popular Vera star, Brenda Blethyn, has entertained audiences since starring on the ITV series as DCI Stanhope since 2011. Earlier this year, the talented actress saddened fans when she announced she was exiting the drama after 13 years.
The 78 year old shared a heartbreaking announcement with her 80,000 followers as the Vera star admitted she had been left feeling “tired” and “emotional”. She was inundated with messages of support as the actress confirmed today marked her final scenes on the show.
Brenda penned: “Travelling home after finishing filming of Series 14 of VERA. Tired and emotional.”
A social media user replied: “Looking forward to hearing about your next venture once the lids on the tin of film for the final episode of Vera. Don’t forget about Northumberland once you leave us .. you know you’re an adopted northern lass now so come back any time.”
To which she replied: “I fully intend to. I love the place.”
Another fan penned: “Thank you Brenda, we love Vera so much.”
A third viewer mused: “Thank you for all your hard work Brenda and all the cast and crew for bringing us our beloved Vera.” While another agreed: “Looking forward to Series 14 but I am really going to miss Vera.”
A fifth penned: “Think I will have to watch the re-runs forever. I’m too attached to let you go. I hope you feel proud that so many of us feel a connection to you.”
Another shared: “Oh wow, the end of an era. Looking forward to the final series but tinged with sadness. Thank you for the care with which you translated Vera from the books to the screen. It has also been a great tourism boost for the North East.”
The upcoming series, scheduled to air early this coming year, marks Brenda’s final series after a 13 year run.
She previously expressed her heartfelt emotions as she bid farewell to the beloved show, stating: “Working on Vera has been a joy from beginning to end and I’m sad to be saying Cheerio. But I am so proud of our achievements over the last fourteen years.
“I’ll be forever grateful to the wonderful Ann Cleeves who created Vera, and to Elaine Collins who saw fit to cast me in the role.”
Vera will return to ITV next year.
