A police officer accused of shooting a pregnant black woman suspected of shoplifting in Ohio has been charged with her murder.
Ta’Kiya Young, 21, was shot and killed inside her car by an officer in a supermarket car park in Blendon Township, Ohio. Ms Young’s unborn child did not survive the shooting, which took place in August last year.
Connor Grubb, a 29-year-old Blendon Township police officer, faces four counts of murder, four counts of felonious assault and two counts of involuntary manslaughter after a grand jury found enough evidence to file charges.
Bodycam footage released after the incident shows two police officers confronting Ms Young about accusations that she had stolen alcohol as she remains inside her car.
Ms Young began to drive off, prompting one officer – who was standing in front of the car – to fire a shot into her windscreen.
