Top UK supermarkets and restaurants have issued an urgent product recall after over 50 food items have been deemed unsafe to eat.
The Food Standards Agency has issued a ‘do not eat’ warning for products sold at Aldi, Spar and Domino’s over ‘life threatening’ contamination fears.
More than 50 food items sold across the various retailers are affected, after a potential peanut contamination has been reported.
The Food Standards Agency has cautioned those with peanut allergies and warned to avoid the recalled items.
The contaminated items include garlic and herb dip from Aldi, Domino’s dip pots, sandwich fillers and potato salad from Booker, and various Spar sandwiches, wraps, and pasta salads.
In a statement, the Food Standards Agency said: ‘FGS Ingredients Ltd is recalling several products containing mustard powder because they may contain peanuts.
‘This means these products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts.
‘These products are sold under several different brand names at several different retail stores.
‘If you have bought any of the above products and have an allergy to peanuts, do not eat them.’
Supermarket chain Aldi has also released a warning, saying: ‘Our supplier is recalling Carlos Takeaway Garlic and Herb Dip 100g because the product may contain an undeclared allergen (peanuts).
‘Anyone who bought this product may return it to their nearest store for a full refund.
‘We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation.’
