Update on the FSA’s Urgent Allergen Advice Regarding Peanut Contamination in Mustard | Allergy UK | National Charity

Must read

Today, the FSA has issued a further update on the peanut contamination in mustard ingredients investigation.  All products containing mustard imported by FGS Ingredients Ltd will be subject to a precautionary recall. This differs from previous recalls which have been undertaken following investigations which revealed positive detection of peanuts in the product.

This means that over the coming days there are expected to be hundreds of products being recalled. Therefore, recipients of alerts should be prepared to see an increase in volume directly as a result of this precautionary recall.

FGS Ingredients Ltd imports mustard to manufacture spice products including curry powders, seasonings, and spice blends. Therefore, all products containing mustard from FGS Ingredients Ltd, including ready meals and snacks, are expected to be recalled. Advice to those affected by a peanut allergy remains the same: to avoid any food containing mustard, mustard powder, or mustard flour due to the ongoing risk of peanut contamination.

Due to the anticipated volume of alerts regarding this precautionary recall, Allergy UK will provide a daily summary of all alerts that have been issued that day.  This will be via an email to anyone who has signed up to our Allergy Alerts, instead of individual alerts each time they are announced. We will also cease publishing posts about this particular recall on our social media channels to avoid overwhelming the community. Therefore, if you have a peanut allergy and haven’t already signed up to our Allergy Alerts, please do so to ensure you receive all relevant updates.

Please note that this change only applies to the precautionary recalls within this investigation. All other unrelated FSA alerts will continue to be posted on social media and sent via email in real time, as usual.

Simone Miles, CEO at Allergy UK: “We understand the continued concern and anxiety this investigation has caused the food-allergic community. This is a challenging and frustrating situation, which is why we encourage people to sign up to receive our Allergy Alerts about any and all future recalls and consider signing up for the FSA Alerts too. The team at Allergy UK is working closely with the FSA and will update the community promptly if developments.”

If you or a family member has had an allergic reaction that could be linked to this investigation, please report it to the food business who supplied the affected product and to the local authority where the product was purchased.
