United transfer news live Chiesa ‘swap’, Branthwaite latest and David verdict

Must read

The transfer window has been open for over a week now and Manchester United fans are still eagerly awaiting their first big move of the summer.

The Reds saw a bid of up to £43million rejected by Everton for Jarrad Branthwaite last week. The youngster is a key target as United aim to bolster their defensive options. It is unclear whether Jonny Evans will extend his second spell at the club with his contract set to expire this month and Victor Lindelof could be sold.

United are also hoping to sign a central midfielder and a striker. Casemiro could be sold this summer, with the Brazilian reportedly rejecting a move to Bayern Munich. Saudi Pro League clubs are also understood to be monitoring the 32-year-old.

How much money Erik ten Hag has to spend this summer will be dependent on outgoings, with the club working off a budget of tens of millions. MEN Sport understands outgoings could reach double figures as United look to raise funds ahead of a busy summer.

Alvarez breaks silence on rumours

West Ham and Mexico star Edson Alvarez has refused to comment directly on the transfer links to Manchester United after he was tipped to reunite with Erik ten Hag.

Alvarez is currently away at the Copa America but that hasn’t stopped him from being quizzed. “I can only tell you that I’m focused on what I have to do,” he said.

“I know that the Copa America is a very important tournament where the eyes of the world are basically there. Later there will be time to see what there is or what there isn’t.”

Calafiori on shortlist

An interesting one here as he’s a new name on the block but according to Fichajes, Man United have turned their attention on Bologna and Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori.

The defender is in high demand after impressing at club level and starting Euro 2024 for Italy. However, he’s expected to cost €40m. The report does claim that United are willing to pay that for his signature.

As with every Italian breakthrough star, Juventus are also keen and are considered hot favourites.

Chiesa swap deal

This is a deal that should excite Man United fans. According to reports in Italy, the hefty fee demanded for Mason Greenwood is too much for Juventus, leaving them no choice but to consider a swap deal.

Gazzetta dello Sport has suggested that Federico Chiesa could be offered as part of the deal to lower the actual sum paid for Greenwood. The Italy international’s contract expires in 2025 and there has been difficulty regarding a renewal.

Another option has been Sancho moving to Turn on loan and Chiesa joining United on a permanent deal.
