The much-loved fashion shop Angela Bare is closing down in York.
But it’s not goodbye forever – as the shop is relocating to Bridlington. The vintage haven has announced their last days of trading in York before their move, with the aim to clear out all their old stock.
Angela Bare’s last day in York will be Wednesday 28 August.
The business, which sells footwear, clothing and accessories, will be moving back to Bridlington, where they opened their first shop in 2014. Angela Bare have stated on social media that they hope to stay in Bridlington until May 2026.
A hand-written note in the window reads:
‘We are moving back to where we STARTED in business 12 years ago. Our shop is in the town centre King Street, Bridlington. Just going back to my roots. This is not goodbye just moving here after 7 fab years.’
Angela has also stated on Facebook that the move out of York is also due to pressures on her health.
The business has been looking for someone to take over the shop in York, but haven’t found a successor so far.
The shop is having a closing down event between 23 and 28 August, stating: “We will be clearing out all the stock as we need to make way for autumn collections arriving in Bridlington and we will struggle with space.
“We have been trying to find someone to keep the shop going but sadly no one with big pockets.
“So come grab some bargains – it will be your last chance.”
The unique shop is known for its fabulous footwear and quirky clothing, with featured brands such as Joe Browns, Loungefly, and Vendula London.
In 2022, Angela Bare was nominated for a YorkMix Hero Award in the Environmental Hero category – as Angela started her own vegan footwear brand and introduced a recycling scheme in store.
The shop also received the Bronze Award for ‘Best Independent High Street Business’ in the YorkMix Choice Awards 2023.
