The man has not worked for nearly 10 years and has taken up the role of a househusband.
In today’s competitive market, where many partners work in different jobs to support their livelihoods and each other, a Japanese man has taken a unique approach to life. Ryuta Watanabe, a 36-year-old from Hokkaido, Japan, has reportedly been living without employment for nearly a decade and is supported entirely by the income of his “3 wives and 2 girlfriends”, according to the South China Morning Post.
Ryuta Watanabe’s life purpose? To father 54 children and become the “God of Marriage.” According to the report, his wives are in common-law relationships, meaning they live as partners in a marriage-like setup without formal registration. These relationships are built on long-term cohabitation and shared responsibilities. Watanabe, who is already the father of 10 children, currently lives with three wives and two of his children. He has completely taken up the role of a househusband, doing home chores like cooking, cleaning, washing and taking care of the children.

The household expenses, totaling nearly 914,000 yen (approximately Rs 5,00,000), are shared among Ryuta Watanabe’s partners. While Watanabe initially had four wives, he separated from his fourth wife.
To understand how he started living such a life, the report states that the man was “very depressed” a few years back and was even dumped by his ex-girlfriend. It was then that he decided to start dating various women through dating apps. Appearing on the Japanese TV show Abema Prime, Watanabe explained, “I just love women. As soon as we love each other equally, there won’t be any problems. My wives have their own separate rooms, and I sleep with them alternatively every night. They never get jealous but get along well like friends.”
Watanabe further shared that he wants to break the world record for having the most children in Japan, becoming the “God of Marriage.” “I want to have 54 children, so my name will go down in history. I’m still searching for new wives,” he said on the show. It is worth mentioning that polygamy is illegal in Japan, meaning Watanabe cannot marry multiple women at once.
In the meantime, his story has created quite a buzz on social media, with people surprised by his lifestyle.
