Fishermen fear boat damage on Van Don Island

At Van Don Port of Quang Ninh, heavy rain and strong winds have ripped off the roofs of several houses. Despite the rough weather, many residents continue to gather at the docks, inspecting their boats and reinforcing mooring lines.

Each boat, valued at tens to hundreds of millions of dong (VND100 million = US$4,000), represents the fishermen’s livelihood. Although the boats were securely moored on Friday, the fishermen are anxious to make one final check before the storm hits.
