Two men in their forties are confirmed to have died after a helicopter crashed into a building in County Westmeath in Ireland.

Police said that the incident occurred in the Joristown area of Killucan at approximately 3.30pm

Pat Hunt, of Westmeath Fire and Rescue Service, told local radio: “We understand it’s an incident involving an aircraft, a helicopter, crashing into a building in the Joristown Upper townland.”

The Air Accident Investigation Unit, which sent a team of investigators to the area, said a single engine helicopter was involved.

One of the deceased was Irish, while the other victim was from eastern Europe.

Irish police said they might need Interpol’s help to reach the next of kin of the man from eastern Europe.
