Two Britons found dead in same Greek tourist town – police launch probe

Police in Greece have launched a probe after finding the bodies of two Britons in their respective hotel rooms in the town of Hersonissos, in the Greek island of Crete.

The bodies of the two dead British tourists were found separately and just hours apart on Wednesday. Greek police insist that the close timing and locations of the two deaths are merely coincidence. The authorities are treating the two deaths in the small Crete town as unrelated.

The 71-year-old woman was discovered unresponsive by her son in the hotel room they were staying in. While emergency services rushed to the hotel room, the woman was tragically declared dead at the scene.

Hours later, at a different hotel, a 58-year-old British man was found unconscious in his hotel room. He was raced to a hospital in an ambulance but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Greek police have suggested that the man and woman both had past health problems. The officials are currently waiting on autopsies to shed more light on the reasons behind the deaths.

The two deaths come just a week after another British tourist died in Hersonissos.

A 65-year-old woman fell to her death at a hotel where she was staying with her husband.

She was rushed to the local Venizelio hospital in serious condition and placed in intensive care.

However, she sadly passed away last Wednesday.

Hersonissos is hugely popular among British tourists as a holiday destination.

Around 832,000 British holidaymakers flocked to the Greek island last year.

Hersonissos has a reputation as a resort hotspot, with several beaches, museums and water parks for families.

The town on the island’s north shore has an array of bars, restaurants and clubs catered to tourists.
