From paywalled features to a huge rebrand, its safe to say that X (formerly Twitter) has completely transformed since Elon Musk took over.
Now, the self-proclaimed ‘chief twit’ has revealed his next big change to the platform.
X will now let people you’ve blocked see your posts.
While Musk claims it’s ‘high time this happened’, the change hasn’t gone down well with many users.
‘I don’t want the creeps I’ve blocked seeing my posts at all,’ one user tweeted, while another simply said: ‘We don’t want this.’
From paywalled features to a huge rebrand, its safe to say that X (formerly Twitter ) has completely transformed since Elon Musk took over. Now, the self-proclaimed ‘chief twit’ has revealed his next big change to the platform
While Musk claims it’s ‘high time this happened’, the change hasn’t gone down well with many users
X’s ‘block’ feature is designed to help users control how they interact with other accounts on the platform.
‘This feature helps people in restricting specific accounts from contacting them, seeing their posts, and following them,’ X’s help page explains.
Currently, accounts you’ve blocked cannot follow you, view your posts, find your posts in search, send Direct Messages to you, view your following or followers lists, likes or lists, View a Moment you’ve created, add your X account to their lists, or tag you in a photo.
However, much of this rests on the account being logged in.
Musk has confirmed that accounts you’ve blocked will be able to see your posts, even if they’re logged in
The change has alarmed many X users, who have replied to Musk with their concerns
‘I don’t want the creeps I’ve blocked seeing my posts at all,’ one user tweeted, while another simply said: ‘We don’t want this’
‘Blocking only works if the account you’ve blocked is logged in on X,’ X explains.
‘For example, if the account you’ve blocked isn’t logged in or is accessing X content via a third party, they may be able to see your public posts.’
Now, Musk has confirmed that accounts you’ve blocked will be able to see your posts, even if they’re logged in.
‘High time this happened. The block function will block that account from engaging with, but not block seeing, public post,’ Musk tweeted.
The change has alarmed many X users, who have replied to Musk with their concerns.
‘This is not good at all. Many people block abusive accounts for real world security and safety reasons. You have just taken that away,’ one user replied to Musk
One furious user went so far as to call the change Elon’s ‘worst idea ever since rebranding’
‘With respect, I think this is a bad idea,’ one user tweeted.
‘There are many reasons somebody may not want certain individuals from easily seeing all their public posts.
‘There are some REALLY bad actors on social media, sadly.’
Another added: ‘This is not good at all. Many people block abusive accounts for real world security and safety reasons. You have just taken that away.’
And one went so far as to call the change Elon’s ‘worst idea ever since rebranding.’
