The number of air passengers in Türkiye is projected to reach approximately 236.6 million this year, marking a significant increase from last year’s figures.
The General Directorate of State Airports Authority has updated its “Aircraft, Passenger, Cargo Series and Forecasts Report.” Last year, the total number of air passengers, including direct transit passengers, was 214.23 million. This figure is expected to rise by about 10.4% this year, reaching 236.56 million.
Looking ahead to next year, the number of passengers is anticipated to climb to 249.26 million.
Largest increase in domestic flights
International passenger numbers, which were 122.95 million last year, are forecasted to grow by 9.1% this year to 134.22 million. By 2025, this number is expected to reach 140.18 million.
Domestic travel is also seeing significant growth. Last year, 91.05 million passengers traveled domestically. This year, that number is projected to increase by 11.9%, reaching 101.88 million. By 2025, domestic passenger numbers are expected to rise to 108.62 million.
Increase in aircraft, cargo traffic
The total number of aircraft movements, including transit overflights, was 2.17 million last year. This year, it is expected to rise to 2.33 million, with a further increase to 2.43 million next year.
Domestic aircraft movements are estimated to reach 937,747 this year, while international movements are projected to reach 875,128.
Last year saw 485,453 transit overflights. This number is expected to grow to 521,337 this year and to 538,078 by 2025.
Cargo traffic is also on the rise. Total cargo movement at Turkish airports was 4.44 million tons last year.
This figure is expected to reach 4.92 million tons this year and is projected to climb to 5.12 million tons by 2025.
