The bloodied former president, 78, who shouted “Fight! Fight! Fight!” as secret service agents dragged him to the ground, revealed he was saved from a fatal hit by slightly turning his head at the last moment as a bullet whizzed past just centimetres away.
“I rarely look away from the crowd. Had I not done that… we would not be talking today, would we?” he said.
Trump posted on Truth Social early on Sunday: “It was God alone who prevented the unthinkable happening,” adding: “We will fear not.”
A person who spoke to the former president after the shooting told The Washington Post he was feeling “spiritual” about the attack.
“He thinks he was handed a gift from God. He can’t believe it,” they said.
