TRNSMT fans face travel chaos as ScotRail AXES trains after final act

TRNSMT revellers will face travel chaos after rail bosses announced that services will stop before the festival finishes.

The national rail operator has slashed some of their services tonight before TRNSMT‘s finale.

Around 50,000 fans descended on Glasgow Green today for TRNSMT day three to see musicians like Tom Grennan, Chase and Status and headliner Calvin Harris take the stage.

But festival-goers are in for a shock as they head home from the city centre site.

Scotrail warned fans heading to the venue at 10:30am this morning that they would be operating on an emergency plan and that services would be limited tonight.

The rail chiefs later retracted their earlier statement by announcing late this afternoon that they were terminating their services before Calvin Harris‘ set finished.

 

Scotrail urged fans to “consider travel arrangements” and TRNSMT’s official page alerted revellers to the travel disruptions writing: “ScotRail are now operating an emergency service and they won’t have any services running after the festival tonight.

“Please organise alternative travel plans home”.

Furious parents and passengers flocked to the comments to react to the late announcement.

One wrote: “Timetable changed at last minute. 1000s of teenagers stranded. Glasgow central will be chaos young people stranded till next morning.  Can’t even provide a train to Paisley after festival. I hope @PoliceScotland are on standby to help.”

Another said: “Absolutely disgusted at leaving people stranded my 17 year old can’t get home as the trains to here are already stopped. We were told a restricted service not that they would all be cancelled. Found out ten minutes ago too late to get the last train. This is a safety issue.

“When I phoned I was told she would need to ask for assistance at the station! I’m presuming with thousands of other people in the same position they aren’t going to help everyone get home. I don’t know how i’m going to get her home!”

A third added: “Absolute disgrace, cancelling services when they know TRSMT is on and the children are 16 years of age. Encourage us to use public transport this just highlights how unreliable public transport is.”

Mark Ilderton, ScotRail Service Delivery Director, said: “We are very sorry to customers for the disruption to services. We know that customers want certainty and reliability, which is why we are introducing a temporary timetable, in place of late-notice cancellations.

“We are operating services which the vast majority of customers use and are still using all the available trains in our fleet so customers can continue to travel.

“We want to resolve the pay dispute with the trade unions and remain fully committed to further discussions.

“We’re asking customers to check their journey on our website or mobile app, as train times will have changed.”
