Transfer news live – Arsenal and Liverpool battle, Man Utd stance on Greenwood

Must read

Premier League clubs are racing to get their business done early ahead of the summer transfer window, especially in light of Euro 2024 and the Copa America taking place over the coming weeks

Earps will take time to decide Man Utd future

The summer transfer window doesn’t officially open for more than two weeks but the rumour mill is already whirling around.

Managerial changes are stealing the headlines right now, with Chelsea now close to appointing Leicester boss Enzo Maresca to succeed Mauricio Pochettino, who stunningly left Stamford Bridge after just one season via mutual consent last week. Chelsea aren’t the only club looking for a new boss, as Barcelona, AC Milan, Bayern Munich and Juventus are all still without head coaches.

Manchester United could also be on the hunt for a manager if they decide sack Erik ten Hag, who despite winning the FA Cup on Saturday remains in real danger of getting the chop after ongoing showdown talks. But there’s still a huge focus on transfers at Old Trafford, with the future of Mason Greenwood one of the biggest talking points amid interest from Borussia Dortmund.

Meanwhile, Liverpool and Arsenal could find themselves going head-to-head over Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow, and Tottenham have already confirmed their first move of the summer.

Juventus want rid of Milik

Juventus are planning to offload striker Arkadiusz Milik this summer and could offer him as part of a deal to sign highly-rated Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori.

Milik, 30, joined the Bianconeri permanently last summer following a loan spell from Marseille, but now that Massimiliano Allegri has been sacked his future at Juventus looks bleak.

Juve are set to appoint Bologna manager Thiago Motta and want to take centre-back Calafiori, 22, from them as well, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Three Saudi clubs keen on Casemiro

Three Saudi Pro League clubs are interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Casemiro.

The Brazilian has endured a difficult second season at the Red Devils after his £70million move from Real Madrid in August 2022. That has seen him face criticism for his performances, particularly after the 4-0 defeat at Crystal Palace earlier this month where he had been used as a centre-back.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe set to undergo an overhaul of his United squad, Casemiro could leave Old Trafford this summer. According to GOAL Brazil, the 32-year-old has become the next main target for Saudi Arabia, with Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli and Al-Qasdiya credited with an interest.

Aston Villa and Crystal Palace eye English youngster

Aston Villa and Crystal Palace have joined the list of clubs keeping tabs on new England youngster Archie Brown.

Full-back Brown came through Derby County’s academy before leaving in 2021 and has been making a name for himself abroad firstly in Switzerland with Lausanne and then Gent in Belgium. His progress has caught the attention of the FA and he was rewarded last week with a first ever international call up when he was selected for England’s Elite League Squad, formerly the Under-20s.

The left-back’s performances have also seen him attract increasing attention from clubs ahead of this summer’s window. Chelsea, West Ham and Everton have all previously been linked with moves for Brown.

ICYMI: Tottenham confirm Werner return

Tottenham announced last night that forward Timo Werner will once again join them on loan next season.

Spurs will pay the German’s full wages, having first loaned him from RB Leipzig in January.

Werner, 28, scored two goals and registered three assists in 14 appearances under Ange Postecoglou.

Chelsea face delay in Maresca appointment

Chelsea are yet to reach a full agreement with Leciester manager Enzo Maresca, although he’s still expected to be their next boss.

Chelsea have offered Maresca a five-year contract, with newly-promoted Leicester demanding a £10million compensation fee.

Man Utd make Greenwood stance clear amid Borussia Dortmund interest

Manchester United would prefer to sell Mason Greenwood permanently amid interest from Borussia Dortmund – but don’t rule out another loan move.

Greenwood, 22, recently completed his season-long loan with La Liga side Getafe, where he won player of the season, but won’t be returning to Old Trafford.

ESPN report that Dortmund are considering making a loan offer but will decide after this Saturday’s Champions League final against Real Madrid.

United hope to recoup a £40million fee for Greenwood, who’s under contract until 2025 with the option of a further 12 months which the club can trigger.

Arsenal and Liverpool in battle for goalkeeper

Liverpool have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Justin Bijlow from Feyenoord, who’s open to a move.

The Dutch goalkeeper told Voetbalzone: “Will I stay at Feyenoord? You never know, do you? That’s football. You never know that. I’m ambitious, I’ve always said that. If the opportunity presents itself and a good club comes from abroad, I am open to it.

“Those are two very nice clubs. Of course it is always nice to be mentioned at big clubs. As I said, I’m ambitious. As long as I play for Feyenoord I will give everything for that and first I just want to focus on the Dutch team.”

Mirror Football recently reported that Arsenal are keen to sign Bijlow, 26, and this week has seen Liverpool – now managed by former Feyenoord boss Arne Slot – also linked.
