Train strikes over Christmas and New Year suspended

Must read

Train manager strikes which would have caused disruption to trains over the Christmas and New Year period have been called off.

RMT union members working for Avanti West Coast had been planning to walk out on December 22, 23 and 29 in a row over working on rest days.

Members are now set to vote on a revised offer.

It’s not yet known if Avanti West Coast will be running their normal timetable on the days originally earmarked for strikes, with National Rail advising passengers to check journey planners nearer the time.

An Avanti West Coast spokesperson said: ‘We are pleased that the RMT have decided to suspend these strikes which would have caused major disruption to our services and this will come as a relief to our customers who were making travel plans over the Christmas period.

‘We remain open to discussion with the RMT and await the outcome of the referendum where train managers can vote on this offer.’

Meanwhile, on the London Underground, there is once again a part suspension on the Piccadilly line between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge after falling leaves caused ‘difficult track conditions’.
