A1 travel time

Traffic is queuing on the A1 Western Bypass southbound at Junction 66 A167 Durham Road – that’s the Bowes Incline/Angel of the North turn off. Travel time is 20 minutes at the moment. Further back at Junction 69, traffic is said to be moving well.

Latest on the roads

  • Slow traffic on A1 Western Bypass Southbound at J66 A167 Durham Road (Bowes Incline / Angel Of The North). In the roadworks area.
  • Slow traffic on A167 in both directions at the Tyne Bridge. In the roadworks area.

  • Slow traffic on A19 Northbound at the Tyne Tunnel. Travel time is ten minutes.

  • Queueing traffic on A184 Felling Bypass Westbound around A185 / B1426 Shields Road (Heworth traffic lights).

  • Slow traffic on A19 at A189 / A1171 / B1505 (Moor Farm Roundabout).

  • Slow traffic on A1058 Jesmond Road inbound before A167(M).

‘Four-metre void’

Yesterday’s delays were caused after a “four-metre void” was discovered close to the road overnight on Wednesday. An overnight closure was in place last night as remedial works continued.

The road has reopened this morning but drivers have been warned to expect delays.

‘Significant delays’ to continue over weekend on A1

Tailbacks of up to six miles were seen on the A1 yesterday. Motorists have been warned that these are likely to continue over the weekend.
