ForbesToday’s NYT ‘Connections’ Hints And Answers For Monday, July 1

Hey, folks! One of my favorite sports events of the year, Wimbledon, is underway. As such, I’ll be spending much of this week and next plonked in front of the TV, enjoying what’s sure to be some top quality tennis from the best players in the world. (When I’m not watching Euro 2024, at least.)

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers are coming right up.

How To Play Connections

In Connections, you’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like horror movie franchises, a type of verb or rappers.

There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is typically the hardest one to deduce. The purple group often involves wordplay, so bear that in mind.

Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers.

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are…

  • Yellow group — pack (away) for future use (SQUIRREL, STASH, STORE, STOW)
  • Green group — adjectives for assets (FIXED, FROZEN, LIQUID, TOXIC)
  • Blue group — Latin words (CAVEAT, ERGO, QUID, VOX)
  • Purple group — ____ game (ADJECTIVE, BLAME, NUMBERS, SQUID)

I’m very glad to get back to winning ways after a pair of losses.

It took a few minutes for me to get the ball rolling today. STASH, STOW and STORE had the makings of a group, but I couldn’t see a fourth one to go with them. I looked elsewhere and realized ERGO, QUID and VOX seemed like the kind of Latin things a lawyer might say. CAVEAT made sense with those.

I turned my attention back to the yellows and tried a guess with FIXED. I’m not sure why I opted for that, but it killed my chances of a perfect game. Seconds later, I realized that SQUIRREL was the mystery fourth word.

The grid shoved ARCADE and SQUID together, making it easier to deduce the purple group. That left the greens for the win.

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog for hints and the solution for Wednesday’s game if you need them.

P.S. One of my favorite arcade games of all time is The Simpsons. It’s a brilliant beat ‘em up that you can play with up to three friends. It allowed for some pretty terrific double team moves too. Gonna need to find an arcade where it’s still available… or maybe just splash out and have my own machine at home.
