ForbesToday’s NYT ‘Connections’ Help Hints Answers Friday, May 31

Hey, folks! Welcome to not only the weekend, but the start of a new month. My building’s pool area is finally open, and I intend to spend as much time as possible there over the next few months. Since all I all really need for work is a laptop and an Internet connection, I wager I’ll be there during some working hours too.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers are coming right up.

How To Play Connections

In Connections, you’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like horror movie franchises, a type of verb or rappers.

There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is typically the hardest one to deduce. The purple group often involves wordplay, so bear that in mind.

Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers.

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are…

  • Yellow group — “don’t delay!” (HURRY, NOW, PRONTO, STAT)
  • Green group — ocean phenomena (CURRENT, DRIFT, TIDE, WAVE)
  • Blue group — dumbbell exercises (CURL, FLY, PRESS, ROW)
  • Purple group — philosopher homophones (LOCK, MARKS, PANE, RUSTLE)

No perfect game today, unfortunately, by my overall streak is up to 11 wins.

The greens and yellows gave me no problems, but I had more difficulty with the last groups. I thought there might have been a group of rugby terms, so I guessed LOCK, ROW, FLY and PRESS. I was one away, so I swapped out ROW for CURL (nope), then ROW back in for LOCK (yup).

I probably should have figured out the purple group, which refers to John Locke, Karl Marx, Thomas Paine and Bertrand Russell, but I quit a philosophy class at university after three weeks.

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog for hints and the solution for Sunday’s game if you need them.

P.S. I have immense respect and admiration for punk icon Laura Jane Grace, who by all accounts is an excellent human. I’m also a big fan of Transgender Dysphoria Blues, an album from her band Against Me! that addresses gender dysphoria. It was released nearly two years after Grace came out as a trans woman.

This is my favorite song from that record. It seems a fitting one to share as we enter June. Happy Pride, everyone.
