Three of 2023’s worst Xbox games now on sale at their lowest-ever price

Must read

If you haven’t yet had the displeasure of trying to unlock all 36 The Lord of the Rings: Gollum achievements and are curious about just how painful that experience could be, now is the time to pick up a copy, as three of 2023’s worst Xbox games, including Gollum, are now on sale at their lowest-ever price.

Xbox sale includes three of the worst games of 2023

With games such as Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, Resident Evil 4, Dead Space, and Street Fighter 6, 2023 was a fantastic year for games. However, we did also see a fair share of stinkers make their way to Xbox. When I think of the worst games of 2023, three instantly come to mind: The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Skull Island: Rise of Kong, and The Walking Dead: Destinies. All three of these titles were heavily (and rightfully) criticized upon release, with reviews noting either how broken they were or just how bad and uninspiring the gameplay was.

If we take a look at Metacritic ratings, we can see that Gollum sits with a Metascore of 43 on Xbox, The Walking Dead: Destinies with 29 on PS5 (there weren’t enough reviews on Xbox for a Metascore), and Skull Island: Rise of Kong with 23 on PC (not enough Xbox reviews here either). The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was so poorly received by players and critics that studio Daedalic Entertainment ended up shutting down its development department several months after the game hit the shelves.

With how badly these games were received comes a morbid curiosity (for me, at least). Interestingly, all three are now on sale (thanks, PureXbox) at their lowest-ever price. So, if you’re like me and are curious about just how awful these games are, now is a great time to pick some of them up.

All three of these games are on sale until Monday, June 3. If you want to see what you’re getting into before purchasing The Walking Dead: Destinies, you might want to check out Tom’s first impressions of the action-adventure game, which, let’s say, aren’t all that positive.
