Three new hybrid RF L series lenses from Canon

Must read

The new Canon hybrid lenses, the RF24mm F1.4 L VCM, RF50mm F1.4 L VCM, and RF70-200 F2.8 L IS USM Z, are designed to help creators switch seamlessly between photography and video.

Everything is coming in threes this week. We have three new Macs (a new iMac and Mac mini have already been announced, the MacBook Pro comes later today). And now Canon drops three new lenses on us that look destined not only for the likes of the R1 but also cinema camera units such as the C80.

RF24mm F1.4 L VCM & RF50mm F1.4 L VCM

The RF24mm F1.4 L VCM (above) and RF50mm F1.4 L VCM (below) are designed for hybrid use and optimized for anyone who needs to switch from photo and video quickly. They feature an optical design that utilizes the RF mount to achieve high quality across the entire image area, and quiet, fast and precise AF thanks to Canon’s latest actuator and focusing system featuring the Canon Nano USM (Ultrasonic Motor) and VCM (Voice Coil Motor). A unified exterior helps with easier gimbal adjustments for more efficient shooting.

  • With a combination of VCM and Nano USM actuators, they promise stable video composition with little breathing
  • And they’re customizable with an iris ring for controlling aperture during shooting, lens function button, and customizable control and focus rings

RF70-200 F2.8 L IS USM Z

canon RF70-200MM-F2-8-L-IS-USM-Z-White-5The RF70-200 F2.8 L IS USM Z telephoto lens utilises the same exterior case design and internal mechanics of the other two new ones to make sure it balances well as a companion on gimbals and rigs. Compatible with extenders, the RF70-200 F2.8 L IS USM Z produces high-quality images with its large f/2.8 zoom aperture and boasts minimal focus breathing. Its iris ring enables fine-tuned video recording and its compatibility with power zoom adapters makes it a strong addition for video production needs.

The RF70-200 has 18 elements in 15 groups and features two Super UD Lenses, a single UD lens, and three aspherical lenses.

Additional features include:

  • Close up shooting with a maximum magnification of 0.3x
