Three MPs representing Haringey have now accepted jobs working for the government in a variety of roles.

Following Labour’s landslide general election win last week, Tottenham MP David Lammy was appointed as Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, after previously serving as shadow foreign secretary in opposition.

Lammy, who has represented Tottenham since 2000, said: “It is the honour of my life […] The world faces huge challenges, but we will navigate them with the UK’s enormous strengths. We will reconnect Britain for our security and prosperity at home.”

The Tottenham MP has now been joined at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office by Hornsey and Friern Barnet MP Catherine West, who has been named as a parliamentary under secretary of state.

Hampstead and Highgate MP Tulip Siddiq is also now serving in government. She has been named Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister.

Siddiq said: “It is a privilege to be appointed Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister. Our financial services industry is one of Britain’s greatest assets and will be key to restoring economic growth. There’s no time to waste.”
