‘This has brought her so much joy’: Janey Godley awarded honorary doctorate

She had revealed she had been battling ovarian cancer in 2021 but despite being given the all-clear in 2022, it then came back and spread.

She’s been awarded the honorary doctorate by the university and the 63-year-old’s daughter believes it is bringing her a lot of joy as she approaches the end of her life and explained her pride.

A post on Instagram said: “Thank you University of Glasgow for bestowing upon my mum the honorary degree of doctor of the University of Glasgow. This has brought her so much joy in the final beats of her life. Janey is so honoured, and I am so immensely proud of her. I am always proud of her. Congratulations Doctor Godley.

“Thank you for all your kindness and support to our family in this very difficult time, Ashley Storrie.”

She added: “Thank you PPW Hospice for making this day special and beautiful for our family.”

A University spokesperson said: “We are delighted to confirm Janey has been made an Honorary Graduate of the University. It is an honour to bestow an honorary doctorate on the incredible Dr Godley. We send all our love and support to Janey and her family.” 

The decision to award the doctorate has been praised by others too with celebrity chef Nigella Lawson saying: “That is heartbreakingly beautiful.”
