A third possible assassination attempt on Donald Trump was thwarted on Saturday when police stopped a man armed with guns and fake passes outside his rally at Coachella Valley, California.
The suspect, Vem Miller, 49, from Las Vegas, was caught at a checkpoint about a mile from the rally venue carrying a loaded shotgun, handgun and a high-capacity magazine, a sheriff said. He was arrested and bailed.
“We probably stopped another assassination attempt,” said Chad Bianco, Riverside County sheriff. At the checkpoint, the suspect had presented a press pass and a VIP pass “which were“different enough to cause the deputies alarm”.
