In a study conducted by Stacker.com, there are several jobs that may not exist in 50 years from now, due to new technological advances.
Stacker reported that there have been an increase of layoffs with the creation of advanced software, robotics, automation, AI, and changing trends.
Stacker reports that many economists foresee that the increase in technology will lead to the “loss of more than 1.5 million jobs in America’s manufacturing sector.”
Many of the jobs include those that require no more education than a high school diploma, causing even more concern for many workers across America.
Of the 50 jobs that Stacker.com identified, these are the top 15 jobs that might not exist in the next 50 years:
1. Taxi driver According to the New York Times, a prediction made by Steven Greenhouse, a labor and workplace reporter, stated that the rise of automated cars would erase close to 5-million American jobs. This includes taxi drivers, who will see vehicles that are driverless.
2. Mail sorter, letter carrier, and clerks Forbes Magazine predicts postal positions will be erased soon, due to a 37% drop of those employed in May of 2023.
3. Pilot Due to the creation of robots, with an autopilot feature, planes may see pilotless planes.
4. Bill, account collector USA Today reported that there’s evidence that middle-class jobs are disappearing due to the rise of software and automation that can provide the same tasks.
5. Surveyors and mapping technicians Stacker reports that as robots and other technological advancements are made, surveyors will be long gone.
6. Parking enforcement “Meter Maids” will be something of the past. Instead, Stacker reports that Drones may be the future, as they already deliver everything from packages to missiles with pinpoint precision.
7. Meter Reader Soon, simple and cheap smart devices will be reading outdoor utility meters. according to Stacker.
8. Bus Driver Another job that Stacker reports will be taken by driverless vehicles. Self-driving electric
9. Engine Machine assembler Human-to-machine ratio has been decreasing, Stacker reports, stating there will be an extinction-level due to robots.
10. Coal Miner The Coal Industry is a dying breed. According to the New York Times, engineers and coders are the ones who are the brains behind technology that does the mining.
11. Switchboard operator Nearly one in four switchboard operator positions have disappeared since 2010, according to Stacker.
12. Computer Operator According to Stacker, Computer Operators are those who deal with error messages, and monitoring systems. However, they predict that these jobs will be gone by 2024.
13. Prepress Technician Technology, according to Stacker, has already eliminated some jobs. However, with “sophisticated” publishing software, they suspect many more technicians will be out of jobs.
14. Fast-food worker Stacker reports that robots will be the ones to take out fast-food workers, as they already do at one of the New York City Shake Shacks.
15. Truck driver The Guardian reported that many auto companies are spending millions of dollars on driverless vehicles, with truck drivers possibly facing the same.
