The records we broke and milestones hit in 23/24

Must read

An incredible season saw us rewrite the record books numerous times, sending statisticians into a frenzy as they tried to discover the impact of our latest achievement.

As the victories piled up, goals flew in and clean sheets were kept, we registered lots of new club highs and English footballing feats, while some of our players carved out their own little pieces of history.

With help from Opta, we have pulled together all of the new heights we have set, and milestones we reached during the 2023/24 campaign:

Records set

Wins

We won 35 times in all competitions, from 52 games – the win percentage of 67.3% is the highest of any Arsenal season on record.

We picked up 89 points in the Premier League, our second-highest total, just one shy of the 90 our Invincibles achieved in 2003/04. 89 points have been enough to win the title in 20 of the previous 31 Premier League seasons, including last term.

Our 28 victories are our best haul in the Premier League era, and we have only won more league games in any top-flight campaign back in our double season of 1970/71, when we got 29.

We began 2024 with eight successive league victories, our best-ever start to a calendar year.

We won our opening three away games in a top-flight campaign without conceding a single goal for the first time.

Goals scored

After beating West Ham United 6-0, Burnley 5-0 and Sheffield United 6-0, we became the first side in English league football history to win three successive away games by 5+ goals. Only one other team in English top-flight history had ever scored 5+ goals in three successive away league games, which was the Clarets themselves in September 1961.

Our wins at Bramall Lane and the London Stadium matched our biggest-ever away league win, moving alongside 7-1 drubbings of Aston Villa and Wolves in the 1930s.

We scored 22 set-piece goals (excluding penalties), the most in the division. 16 of those came from corners, matching the record in a single Premier League campaign.

Between our 3-1 win against Liverpool in February, and the 6-0 win at Sheffield United at the start of March, we scored 2+ goals in eight consecutive halves of Premier League football, a record in the competition.

Against Sheffield United we went 5-0 ahead after 39 minutes, the earliest an away side has had that big a lead in Premier League history.

At home to Lens we became the first English side to lead 5-0 at half-time in a Champions League game, and the first team from any nation to have as many as five different scorers (excl. own goals) in the first half of a match in the competition.

Eddie Nketiah became our 22nd different hat-trick scorer in the Premier League – no team has more unique hat-trick scorers in the competition.

Goals conceded

We ended the season with the best defensive record in the division, with only 29 goals conceded, five less than any other team. It is our best record for 20 years.

We recorded 18 clean sheets in the Premier League this season, five more than any other side. That is the most in a single campaign in the competition since 2015/16 (18).

We finished with a goal difference of +62 in the Premier League; our highest-ever total in the competition’s history.

We registered 10 away clean sheets in back-to-back seasons for the first time ever. Only Chelsea in 2008/09 (12) have kept more away from home in a Premier League season than our 11.

With our 2-0 win at Wolves, we kept a clean sheet in six consecutive away league games for the first time ever. Only Chelsea in December 2008 and Manchester United in February 2009 (both 7) have enjoyed longer such runs in Premier League history.

Individuals

David Raya won the Premier League Golden Glove – keeping 16 clean sheets, level with Petr Cech (16 in 2015/16) in keeping more shutouts in his debut Premier League campaign for us.

William Saliba became the first outfield player to play every minute for us in a Premier League season. The last player to do so was Lee Dixon in Division One in 1989/90.

Gabriel scored his 14th goal in the Premier League, the most of any defender in the competition since the start of 2020/21.

Leandro Trossard scored six goals as a substitute in all competitions this season; no player has netted more from the bench for clubs in Europe’s big-five leagues in 2023/24.

No player started more open play sequences that ended in a shot in the Premier League this season than Declan Rice (50).

Martin Odegaard created more chances from open play than any other player in the Premier League this season (88).

Bukayo Saka is the only Arsenal player in Premier League history to score or assist against every side he’s faced in the competition, which now stands at 25 teams.

Milestones reached

We progressed to the quarter-final of the Champions League for the first time since 2009/10, ending a run of seven consecutive last-16 eliminations in the competition.

The 6-0 success over Lens was our 100th in the Champions League, including qualifying matches.

We went unbeaten after 10 games of a Premier League season for the first time since 2007/08.

We were top of the English top-flight table on successive Christmas Days for just the second time, last doing so in 1932 and 1933.

We scored 5+ goals in six different Premier League games this season, our most in a single league campaign since 1934/35.

Our win against Crystal Palace in August was our 200th Premier League away clean sheet, becoming only the third side to do so after Manchester United and Chelsea.

Gabriel Martinelli’s first goal against Crystal Palace in January was the 200th scored by a substitute for us in the Premier League – we’re just the third side to hit this milestone after Man Utd and Chelsea.

Jurrien Timber became the 900th player to play for us in a competitive match.

When Ben White netted our sixth against Sheffield United, it was the 10,000th in our history – find out more

Leandro Trossard’s goal against West Ham United in February saw us hit 8,000 league goals.

Leo’s opener against Burnley in November was our 1,000th at Emirates Stadium – find out more

Kai Havertz’s strike against Sheffield United was the 150,000th scored in England’s top-flight stretching all the way back to the end of the 19th century.

Kai also became the 100th Arsenal player to score a competitive goal at Emirates Stadium when he netted against Lens in the Champions League.

Bukayo Saka netted his 50th goal in our colours, and also passed 100 goals and assists combined.

Bukayo also completed a run of 87 consecutive matches in the Premier League, the longest run of any player for us in the competition. He also surpassed 200 appearances for the club.

Thomas Partey, Ben White and Emile Smith Rowe played for our first-team for the 100th time, while Gabriel, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, White and Eddie Nketiah completed a century of Premier League appearances.

Takehiro Tomiyasu became the first Asian player to score a Premier League goal for us.

Leandro Trossard became only the fourth player in Champions League history to score in each of his first four home appearances in the competition, after Alessandro Del Piero, Frederic Kanoute and Oscar.
